Honda recently announced it will be moving production of its Acura MDX full-sized crossover SUV from its home in Canada down south to Honda's U.S. plant in the state of Alabama.

According to the Birmingham News, Honda is making the move to accommodate additional production of its CR-V mid-sized crossover. The Honda CR-V, which is one of the automaker's most popular vehicles after the Civic and Honda Accord, is all-new for model year 2012.

The Acura MDX will be the first from Honda's luxury brand to be built at the car company's Lincoln, Alabama plant. Currently, the plant manufactures the Honda Odyssey minivan, Pilot crossover SUV, and Ridgeline pickup truck. Honda expanded the plant in 2011, pouring additional capital and adding over 100 new jobs.

Automotive.com has driven both the 2012 Acura MDX and the Honda CR-V, and found both crossovers fulfilled their missions as comfortable cruisers on the road. Says Trevor Dorchies, Associate Editor at Automotive.com: "The Acura MDX consistently proved to us why it's a popular choice among those looking for a luxury SUV. Driving was more agile than we first gave it credit for and the 3.7-liter V-6 engine provided more than enough power. If you're in search of a luxury SUV and are looking for the best balance of features, cachet, and price, you owe it to yourself to give the Acura MDX a good, hard look."

From Blake Z. Rong of Automotive.com:

"Honda doesn't so much fix anything that's wrong with the previous CR-V as much as they tweak the rest. Some new features like Pandora and text messaging are sure to attract the kids, and more room is always helpful. But Honda can go on and on about young nuptials without hiding the fact that the CR-V is just as good as before -- well-crafted, practical, roomy, and unlike the romantic Grand Tradition grounds underneath a cloudless California sun, probably not that magical at all."
